Another photo-heavy update, but I think Santos is worthy of it…
After travelling down the crazy/beautiful highway from Sao Paulo I arrived in Santos later than planned on Friday evening and so went straight to the bar where my latest Couchsurfing hosts were playing live samba music:
Talented guys! Caio and Daniel Simonian are brothers who teach at their family’s music school and also have various musical projects of their own, such as the band byebyeday, check out some of their tunes here. They also have another brother André who’s an architect and part time composer! I swopped footy shirts with him since he was keen to have a Watford shirt (!?) and I was certainly up for getting myself a shirt of the legendary Santos FC, who a quite famous footballer played for and still goes to watch games now, and advertise credit cards:
As you’ve probably guessed, we went to visit the Vila Belmiro stadium, which isn’t being used for the World Cup, but I’ve wanted to go there ever since watching a film about the club in London last year.

The true secret of success for Pele’s Santos team? Opposition strikers were blinded by sunlight reflecting off the goalie’s bald head!

The club’s 12,000th goal was scored last week with this ball (BTW Pele scored over 1,000 of those goals!)
Then the guys took me to an amazing viewpoint overlooking the city:
And then we got ice-creams and took a stroll onto the beach:
This morning I headed off on the next stage of my journey, now heading towards Rio!
