Olá Recife & stadium #9

I took the scenic route to Recife and stopped at Gaibu beach before heading up the coast and into the city.

I’d planned to Couchsurf to the south of Boa Viagem but in the end went more central and checked into the HI Hostel, then found a nearby bar to watch Real thrash Bayern.

After a night of torrential rain I expected a tricky cycle out of the city to the Arena Pernambuco, but apart from one fall when a puddle turned out to be a big pothole, it wasn’t too bad and I arrived on time.

It was an excellent visit as I met Gareth Moore (the British Consul in Recife) and his colleague Flavia (who’s being amazing help in organising the final 5 stadium visits!), plus another media scrum including Brazil’s main broadcaster Globo, and then out of the blue also a crew from a Spanish language (ie. Mexican) TV channel in the US and an Indonesian journalist. Another excellent stadium too…
