International Day of Sport for Development & Peace

Posted by on 06/04/2014

I just found out that today is the first ever International Day of Sport for Development & Peace – and this video by the IOC pretty much sums up the values of my football-themed cycling trip and also why I’m supporting Laureus Sport For Good Foundation and the WFC Community Sport and Education Trust as my charities.

And in the spirit of sport bringing people together, I want to tell/remind you about some other epic journeys that England football supporters are also currently undertaking to reach the World Cup…

Ride2Rio – Hugh set off from London last July to cycle unsupported around the World to Brazil, and on the way coach and educate young people through the power of football. Incredible!

Walk To The World Cup – Pete, Adam & Dave are part way through their 80 day trek of 1,966km on foot from Mendoza, Argentina to Porto Alegre, Brazil. Superb!

And not forgetting another excellent initiative…

Project Curitiba – Craig & Michael, both FA level 2 qualified youth coaches attached to StreetGames and Lionsraw, are in Curitiba to teach football and English to local disadvantaged kids.

Finally, I had to share the video below, even though it’s not about sport, but what an awesome adventure these guys are on crossing Brazil by foot, paddle and pedal:

Black Gold: Brazil 9000 Update #4 from The Skeeto Lounge on Vimeo.

And now that my #SambaCycle seems tame in comparison, please can I beg you to keep following and sharing my journey as well as those above!!! Cheers.
