Thanks to the very generous Sebbas (Neil, Zanna and baby Daniel!), Vicky, Debbie & Neil, Nigel, Dave, putajumperon, James (a L*t*n fan, amazing!), Matt, Florrie (a puppy dog!) and anonymous x2 for their charity donations since my last update!
Please keep the wonderful donations coming! Why – well because…
5,000 miles / 8,000 km -> done!
What a ride! My first proper cycle tour – loved it!
But the #SambaCycle journey’s not over yet because I’ve still got to visit World Cup stadium number 12 – the Arena Amazonas in Manaus, which is 800 miles west of here.
Martin and I arrived in Belém on Weds at 1pm after a speedy 70km cycle to reach Couchsurfing host Lysmar’s apartment while he’d kindly nipped home from work on his lunch break to let us in. We made it on time despite illness, some dodgy hard shoulder surfaces, hectic traffic (including a truck on its side blocking half the highway), a slight wrong turn/detour, and tending to an injured cyclist. And then suddenly we were here and the cycle tour was done – what a weird feeling. And it hasn’t sunk in even now a couple of days later, but thanks for the lovely messages on Facebook, I expect I’ll reflect on what I’ve achieved during the next 5 days on the boat up the Amazon, and then celebrate big time in Manaus!
